Rainforests Wales
Across the length and breadth of Wales, where coastal weather systems meet the hills and mountains, high rainfall combines with the wooded landscape to create the conditions for temperate rainforest, a unique habitat which occurs on less than 1% of the planet’s surface.
This network of woodlands and trees form the fragments of globally significant temperate rainforest, parts of a once great wooded habitat which spread along the western seaboard of Europe. This landscape is a vital part of Wales’ ecological and cultural heritage.
The Alliance for Wales’ Rainforests (AWR)
The Alliance for Wales' Rainforests is a partnership of organisations dedicated to safeguarding these precious habitats. Through collaboration, the Alliance works to highlight the ecological, environmental, and cultural importance of Wales’ temperate rainforests and champion their positive management and recovery into the future.
The State of Wales’ Rainforests Report
The State of Wales’ Rainforests report is the first major output of the Alliance for Wales’ Rainforests. It establishes an ecological baseline for rainforest condition in Wales, shining a spotlight on the multiple threats that the habitat faces and outlining the actions required to restore Wales’ temperate ainforest and create a healthier, better connected and more resilient rainforest landscape.
